Claudia Brahms

Claudia Brahms is a textile designer and visual artist. Her influences are many: texture, pattern and fashion…. nature’s repeating patterns, wild movement, and vivid color. She has a tailored and boundless approach, allowing the voice of her materials to give the character to her art.

As an entrepreneur, Claudia co-founded Brahms Mount Textiles. The design and manufacturing company nears 40 years in business weaving blankets for the home textile industry. Originally from New York, it was in Maine that she and her husband successfully grew the factory and brand.

An artist residency changed the course of life. Fogo Island became home, and a transformational opportunity to grow her creative language as a designer and artist.

Intrigued by the texture of time, the history in worn cloth, and the inference in a found treasure, stories unfold from her hands. Precious Trash is one of Claudia’s most recent series reflecting on process, the familiarity of a fragment and beauty in the discarded. Interplay of technique builds her textured narratives.
